J&R Pet Care started where every good Yorkshire story does — with two people who couldn't say no to a dog in need.
After years of helping friends, neighbours and rescues move pets up and down the country — often at short notice, often through the night — we made it official. We bought a 21-plate Ford Transit, stripped the back out, and rebuilt it from the floor up around one principle: the pet bay should be as comfortable as the front seats.
That meant proper climate control (cool in summer, warm in winter), 12 secure travel cages sized for everything from cats to large dogs, memory-foam mats, and a pet first-aid kit on every trip. It's specced for animals, not parcels — because in the UK that distinction is rarer than it should be.
We've driven all the way to Inverness for a cat on her forever-home day, back from London with a litter of rescue spaniels, and 12 minutes across Bradford in the middle of the night for a collapsed dog. Three very different journeys — same calm voice, same calm van.
We live and work here in Bradford. When you call us you're not talking to a dispatcher; you're talking to one of us. That's the bit that doesn't scale, and it's the bit we'll never change.

DEFRA standards are the floor, not the ceiling. If something isn't right for the animal, we don't do it — simple as that.
Animal welfare
The animal comes first.
Being DEFRA-registered means our vehicle, training and welfare standards are independently checked against the rules that protect working animals across the UK. But a licence is just a baseline.
In practice it means we plan comfort stops on long runs, never overcrowd the van, keep the bay at the right temperature for the season, and read each animal's stress signals instead of just hitting a deadline. If a journey isn't right for a pet on the day, we say so.
